Guided Walking Tour of Historic Homes in Cocoanut District

The Sarasota Alliance For Historic Preservation is excited to host a Walking Tour of Homes of Historic and Architectural interest in the City’s beautiful Central Cocoanut neighborhood.

Central Cocoanut is a predominantly residential community that saw significant growth in the first half of the 20th Century. Many of the homes from the early 1900s through the 1950s still exist in this close-in community. Numerous architectural styles are represented including Bungalows, Mediterranean Revival, Craftsman, Spanish and Mid-Century Modern. Development pressures are threatening many of these homes but SAHP is working with the residents to help increase awareness of the value of the community’s historic character.

The SAHP will be conducting 12 tours beginning at 11am on November 15th. Board Members will guide each of the 12 tours, which will last approximately 1 hour and allow for 8 participants each.

The first tour will leave the Crocker Church in Pioneer Park at 11am and every 15 minutes thereafter. Space is limited so all those interested in participating are required to pre-register and reserve a slot at your preferred time.

Registration Fee is $20.

Residents of the Central Cocoanut Neighborhood can register for $10 using the discount code COCO-RESIDENT. Due to COVID related concerns, the tours will be conducted outside only. Social distancing will be practiced, and the SAHP will make masks and hand sanitizer available at the start of the tours. We look forward to seeing you there!
